Terms of Use
KernelBrief is a launch candidate site. These terms govern your use of the site and its services.
1. Launch candidate status
KernelBrief v0.3 is a launch candidate. Features may change as we prepare for production. We will notify newsletter subscribers before any material service or data-policy changes.
By using this site during the launch-candidate period, you acknowledge that the service is evolving and provided on an "as-is" basis.
2. Editorial content
All content on KernelBrief is provided for informational and educational purposes only. KernelBrief content does not constitute:
- Legal advice — do not rely on summaries of license changes, rulings, or disputes as legal guidance.
- Professional or security advice — security advisories are summarized from primary sources. Assess CVEs and patches in your own environment before acting.
- Financial or investment advice — stories about companies, funding, or acquisitions are editorial observations, not investment recommendations.
- Endorsement — linking to a project, product, or company does not imply endorsement by KernelBrief.
We strive for accuracy. If you find an error, please submit a correction through our corrections process.
3. User-submitted content
You may submit content to KernelBrief through the following channels:
- Story submissions — URL, topic, and editorial notes for potential coverage.
- Corrections — error reports for published stories.
- Comments — currently a review queue; not publicly visible until moderation tooling is complete.
By submitting content, you:
- Grant KernelBrief a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, reproduce, and display the submission in connection with the site and its newsletter.
- Represent that your submission does not violate any third-party rights or applicable law.
- Acknowledge that submissions may be edited for clarity, length, or editorial standards before publication.
KernelBrief reserves the right to reject or remove any user-submitted content at its sole discretion. See our editorial policy for content standards.
4. Intellectual property
Our content: KernelBrief editorial summaries, analysis, and original writing are protected by copyright. You may quote short excerpts with attribution and a link back to the original KernelBrief page. Republication of full articles or substantial portions requires written permission.
Source material: KernelBrief links to primary sources (release notes, project blogs, advisories, original reporting) rather than republishing full articles. We respect the copyright of original publishers. If you believe a link or excerpt exceeds fair use, contact us at [email protected].
RSS feeds: KernelBrief RSS feeds contain titles, short excerpts, and links back to the full page on kernelbrief.com. You may consume RSS feeds in RSS readers. Republishing RSS content on other websites requires permission.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, index, or republish KernelBrief content at scale without permission (RSS readers are fine).
- Submit false, misleading, or malicious content through any submission form.
- Use the site to distribute spam, malware, or unauthorized commercial messages.
- Attempt to access administrative interfaces without authorization.
- Overload or disrupt the site's infrastructure through automated requests.
6. Limitation of liability
KernelBrief is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
- KernelBrief and its operators are not liable for any damages arising from your use of or reliance on the site's content, including but not limited to direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.
- We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. During the launch-candidate period, outages and maintenance windows are possible.
- Links to third-party sites are provided for reference only. KernelBrief is not responsible for the content or practices of linked sites.
- Summaries of security advisories, CVEs, and patches are provided for awareness. You are responsible for assessing and mitigating risk in your own environment.
7. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the project evolves toward production. Material changes will be announced via the newsletter and noted at this URL. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
