HomeOps device register: what to track first
Homelab and self-hosting readers who want a low-risk inventory of devices, updates, backups, storage, and next actions.
Criteria
- Track enough state to decide what needs attention without storing secrets, passwords, banking details, or private message content.
- Separate routine package updates from router, firewall, major OS, and reboot-heavy maintenance.
- Record backup and restore-test status before marking a device safe to update.
Limitations
This is an operations register pattern, not remote management software. Any reboot, firmware update, network change, credential change, or destructive action requires human approval.
